- Curriculum Vitae
After a study in biomedical sciences (master in environment) at the University of Antwerp, I joined the Ecophysiology, Biochemistry and Toxicology research group in 2006 as a PhD student. When my thesis was completed (Effects of Flutamide on gene-expression and reproduction in Zebrafish, (Danio rerio)), research was still on my mind, so when prof. Dr. Gudrun De Boeck offered a PhD position, I didn’t think about it for long. This opportunity gave me the means of discovering differences in sensitivity to metals in fish. Since I’ve found gaining insights in the molecular world exciting, the awaiting knowledge on how to perform gene and protein research was everything I needed to get started. Additionally, I’ve received a degree to work with test animals, and followed a course in management. Furthermore, being the representative of my class during my studies at the university, I’ve learned a lot about communicating, working together as a team and what it means to have useful meetings. Since I also love interacting with people I continued being involved in communicating about science, by leading a weekly seminar of our group and teaching practical courses, to university students as well as high school students.
