Radio-isotope lab

In order to comply to current legislation on Class II radioactive facilities, the EB&T radio lab recently got completely renovated. Old tile floors were removed and were replaced by an impenetrable epoxy coating. To reduce the possibility of airborne contamination a new ventilation system was installed. This new Class II facility allows researchers to work with radio-active isotopes in a safe environment. You can click here for some images of the lab's infrastructure.

The lab itself is equipped with gamma and beta detectors which we can use for tracer studies, the measurement of protein expression levels and the determination of enzyme activities. Also a separate climate chamber in which experiments can be conducted under controlled conditions is installed. Recently a whole-body gamma detector was purchased which allows us to perform in vivo measurements not only in fresh and salt water species but also in terrestrial animals like woodmice.
