My academic career took off at the University of Antwerp where, at the Laboratory for Ecophysiology, Toxicology and Biochemistry, I wrote my master thesis on the influence of salinity on metal uptake by the European sea bass. I obtained my MSc. in Biology, Magna cum Laude, in 2004. During my final year as a biology student I became more and more interested in molecular processes and events, so I decided to have a go at Biochemistry in which I got my second MSc., cum Laude, in June 2005. In October 2005 I started working as a Phd assistant in the EBT lab where my research focuses on the uptake and toxicity of metals in the European sea bass. For a period of 4 years I was also responsible for the radio-isotope lab of our research group.
Also, part of my task is the organization of the practical courses for Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Physiology for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor students of Biology, Animal veterinary and Bio-Engineering.- Selected publications
